DIANE VON FURSTENBERG/DVF A/W 14 | MBFW

Long story  short: Diane von Furstenberg first entered the fashion world in 1972 with a suitcase full of jersey dresses. Two years later, she created the wrap dress, which came to symbolize power and independence for an entire generation of women. By 1976, she had sold over a million of the dresses and was featured on the cover of Newsweek. In 1997, after a hiatus from fashion, Diane re-launched the iconic dress that started it all, reestablishing her company as the global luxury lifestyle brand that it is today. DVF now offers four complete collections a year with an extensive range of accessories including shoes, handbags, scarves, eyewear, fine jewelry, luggage, and fragrance. DVF is sold in over 70 countries and 85 shops worldwide.

DVF's 40th anniversary festivities began in Los Angeles last month with the opening of Journey of a Dress, a retrospective of the frock that made her fortune. Diane von Furstenberg, the grande dame of American style, continued celebrating the wrap dress with a runway show at Spring Studios overlooking the dramatic Manhattan cityscape, a new venue for DVF, where St. Vincent serenaded the crowd with a live performance.

The first look in the show was a wrap dress, in a gorgeous gold "love knot" jacquard. The gold standard was a theme that ran through the entire collection, including the finale, a parade of gold wrap dresses. After Von Furstenberg did her victory lap around the runway, she hit the stage with her golden bouquet of models behind her, and confetti rained down.

This one is very special to me since she's such a powerful and amazing woman that I look up to. I remember the first time I met Diane, I was at New York on a student trip from Puerto Rico's Fashion design school of Designer Lisa Thon, and we came across her showroom/atelier, she was in a reunion but made time to meet us, she gave us a tour and explained the collection she was working on, told us that when we hit the shop downstairs, a surprise would be waiting for us; I still have the Purple Lipstick and the book she gave me! I'll never forget when she told me I had "pretty hair!" She couldn't believe how long and platinum blonde it was, she just loved it. And I responded "well, I love you", she smiled and then we said our goodbyes. And that was it, but it was so amazing meeting her!
Enough about me,
Here are The complete looks from the DVF Fall 2014 runway show!
Enjoy lovers!
